Contingency Planning

Washington Administration Code (WAC) 173-182 (new) requires certain oil handling facilities, pipelines and vessels to have state approved oil spill contingency plan that ensures their ability to respond to major oil spills.  Ecology has developed a plan review manual to assist companies in meeting these requirements.  The objectives are to reduce spill impacts to public health and the environment, reduce costs for spill response, and increase recovery of spilled product.

Plans are approved for five years.  There is a thirty day period for public comment on plans and requests for planning alternatives.
