 Dungeness Water Working Group

The Dungeness Water Working Group is a broadly representative committee meeting with Ecology staff to evaluate options for water supply and to help draft the instream resources protection and water management rule.  There will be many opportunities for interested members of the public to ask questions and participate in these discussions.  Extensive public outreach is planned before any formal decisions are made.

Dungeness Water Working Group meetings

Ecology will be postponing the Dungeness Water Working Group meetings till October. Instead we will meet individually with the groups represented to discuss the rule and exchange. The groups we have so far set up meeting dates with are the realtors, rotary and chamber of commerce. We will also meet with the well drillers and other groups.

In the meantime:

• Ecology and Clallam County have hired Washington Water Trust (WWT) as contractors for the water exchange. WWT will be meeting individually with each group represented on the DWEC to discuss their expectations for the exchange. WWT will then present this information at the August meeting along with an initial design idea for the exchange.
• The biologists from Ecology, Fish and Wildlife, the Tribe, and the County will hold their second meeting to make some decisions regarding maximum allocations and closures of both the Mainstem and the smaller streams. We will present this information for discussion at the August meeting.
• The DRMT will hold discussions on the priority date issue, which was presented to them at their July 9 meeting. Attached is the paper we handed out to the DRMT on the priority date. Prior to the August 13 DRMT, Ecology and other groups will work on calculating actual water usage based on more concrete data than that used in the paper we handed out.
• As an FYI: there was a recent workshop in Moses Lake on water banking that several Ecology people went to, and presentations were made by various members of WWT. There will be another similar workshop in October somewhere on the Westside. We will keep everyone posted in case they want to attend.
