Aquifer Storage and Recovery - Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) involves injecting water into an aquifer through wells or by surface spreading and infiltration and then pumping it out when needed. The aquifer essentially functions as a water bank. Deposits are made in times of surplus, typically during the rainy season, and withdrawals occur when available water falls short of demand.
Instream Values Symposium - The purpose of the Symposium is to connect economists in natural resource and ecosystem valuation to describe past and present research for valuing instream resources. We will explore methodologies and validity, then discuss some central questions:
Lake Tapps Draft Report of Examination - On May 7, 2010, Ecology posted the draft Lake Tapps Public Water Supply Project reports of exams for an informal 45 business-day review period. Though this review was not required by law, there is considerable interest in this project.
Rainwater Collection in Washington - Rainwater collection is certainly nothing new, humans have been doing it for thousands of years. However, with the advent of cheap, potable water delivered right to your doorstep, those who harvest rain have become somewhat of an anomaly.
Spokane Valley-Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer Study - Idaho and Washington agree on water management protocols. The Idaho Department of Water Resources (IDWR) and the Washington Department of Ecology (Ecology) have an agreement that guides how the two states will continue to coordinate with each other about water supply issues in the Rathdrum Prairie-Spokane Valley aquifer.
Yakima River Basin This page aggregates current and historical information relating to Yakima River basin water management, water right changes and transfers, trust water right acquisition and management, and water banking and includes links to:
U.S.; Lummi Nation v. Ecology - In January 2003, the United States, in its own right and on behalf of the Lummi Indian Nation, commenced suit in United States District Court for the Western District of Washington against landowners who owned wells on a portion of the Lummi Reservation and against the Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology). The Lummi Indian Nation intervened in the suit as a plaintiff, and the Court ordered the plaintiffs to join all non-Lummi landowners within the litigation area. The plaintiffs ask for declaratory and injunctive relief concerning the Lummi Indian Nation’s right to groundwater within the litigation area.
Water Conservation Tips - What you can do? All citizens can help lessen the effects of the limited water supplies by conserving water. People can use water more efficiently in their homes, businesses and yards.
Washington Water Exchange - Ecology has set up the Washington Water Exchange as a service to help water users locate or sell water available for transfer.
Water Storage Task Force - 2000 - The Water Storage Task Force was convened by Ecology at the direction of the 2000 state legislature. The Task Force examined the role of increasing water storage to provide water for fish recovery, population and economic growth, and flood control. The Task Force also considered funding options for constructing water-storage facilities.
