Shoreline management contacts

Washington's Shoreline Management Act (SMA) establishes a local/state partnership for SMP planning and permit administration. Local governments have the primary responsibility for initiating the planning requirements and administering the regulatory program. We act primarily in a supportive and review capacity to ensure compliance with the policies and provisions of the SMA and SMP. We also have final decision authority over shoreline conditional use and variance permits. We recommend that you first reach out to the local government for SMP specific questions. If you need additional assistance, our shoreline management staff can help you with planning and permitting questions.
