Years when sampling has occurred:

2008 2007 2006 2005 2004 2003 2002 2001 2000 1999 1998

Site comment:

This stream belongs to a class of streams that experience extreme high flows during the runoff season and have very broad bankful widths during this time. The water energy and recruitment of material from outside the stream present a major disturbance on an annual basis to the benthic macroinvertebrate community.

1. Emerged Discomoecus sp.; 2. O. mykiss fingerlings in pools,; 3. one medium-sized crayfish (P. leniusculus); 4. Juga sp. Present along stream margin; 5. Surrounding landscape was logged since the previous visit in 1998. RIVPACS score for 1999 was significantly lower following this event. A thin riparian buffer remained along the stream corridor.

Taxa: RIVPACS score

RIVPACS (River InVertebrate Prediction and Classification System) is a model that predicts probabilities of aquatic invertebrates occurring in streams in Western Washington. The number of observed taxa (O) at a test site is divided by the expected taxa (E), yielding a ratio. A ratio of 1 indicates that all expected taxa are present. As a site becomes more degraded, fewer expected taxa are observed, yielding a smaller ratio. We are 90% confident that a ratio smaller than 0.86 is degraded relative to a reference condition.
