Economic Impacts

Many companies have shown that decreasing wastes and use of toxic substances have resulted in savings to the companies. Ecology staff is in the process of compiling information from Washington state companies that have developed Pollution Prevention Plans and have reported financial savings in their P2 progress reports. More information on this will be available later in 2007.

In addition, Ecology is researching potential long-term performance indicators that could track economic effects of eliminating wastes and uses of toxics. If an economic indicator is developed, it will be included in the next Beyond Waste Progress Report update, currently scheduled for early 2008.
