
NewsBeyond Waste Progress Report Is IssuedEcology has released the first ever report documenting progress toward the Beyond Waste plan’s 5-year goals. The results show notable increases in green building practices and in the recycling of organic materials and electronic products. Hazardous waste production has been leveling off. Other results are less encouraging. The total amount of solid waste continues to rise despite recycling successes. A Beyond Waste Progress Report will be issued each year. A set of 8 performance indicators will track overall progress on the priority Beyond Waste initiatives. Additionally, we are currently researching longer-term indicators for inclusion in next year’s progress report. Approximately 2,500 pounds of mercury were captured between 2000-2005.
