Recommendation MRW9: Fully implement local hazardous waste plans

Ensure that all local jurisdictions have and continue to fully implement the five required elements of local hazardous waste plans through the following actions:

1. Prepare a status report detailing statewide implementation.
2. Develop a schedule and strategy for updating any out-of-date plans.
3. Develop ways to use the existing MRW collection infrastructure to support product stewardship and additional closed-loop recycling efforts.
4. Revise the local hazardous waste planning guidelines to more completely reflect the Beyond Waste goals and vision for the future.
5. Provide assistance to local jurisdictions for plan updates and implementation.
6. Provide for regular review of the local hazardous waste programs.

Related Milestone

All MRW facilities are in compliance with Chapter 173-350 WAC, and all treatment storage and disposal facilities handling MRW are also in compliance with Chapter 173-303 WAC.
