Short Description

The Washington State Department of Ecology and Washington State University (WSU) signed an agreement to generate a report describing the results of a literature review on the fate of residual nitrogen (N) in the soil and vadose zone. The main purpose of this review was to provide background information regarding nitrogen use by crops as well as the interactions between the soil water and nitrogen balances and crop water and N use. This information is to be applied primarily to management systems involving land application of processed water (municipal, food processing plants, livestock liquid manure), although the information should also be relevant to other issues of nitrogen management and nitrate leaching.
