Abstract Long Description

In August 2000, the Washington State Department of Ecology released the Draft Strategy to Continually Reduce Persistent, Bioaccumulative, Toxic Chemicals (PBTs) in Washington State. At that time, the agency announced a public comment period through October 30, 2000, and followed with five public meetings to explain the draft PBT Strategy and gather comments. These meetings took place in Bellingham, Spokane, Kennewick, Vancouver, and Seattle between September 21 and October 12, 2000.

During this 70-day period, Ecology received several hundred comments from agriculture, business, industry, and related stakeholders; government agencies; environmental and public interest groups; and individual citizens. The comments were received via the public meetings, letters, e-mails, and postcards.

Ecology staff evaluated each of the comments, incorporating many of them into the Proposed Strategy to Continually Reduce Persistent, Bioaccumulative Toxins (PBTs) in Washington State, submitted to the Washington State Legislature in January 2001.

This publication summarizes Ecology′s responses to these comments, received during September and October of 2000.
