| Short Description |
Lake Whatcom is listed on the Washington State 303(d) list of waterbodies not attaining water quality criterion for dissolved oxygen. This Quality Assurance Project Plan describes the technical study and water quality model development that will be used to evaluate dissolved oxygen concentrations and related parameters in Lake Whatcom. The results of the study will be used to establish TMDLs for substances that either directly or indirectly affect dissolved oxygen concentrations in the lake. (Also see abstract below) | |||

| Abstract | Long Description |
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requires states to set priorities for cleaning up 303(d) listed waters and to establish a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) for each. A TMDL entails an analysis of how much of a pollutant load a waterbody can assimilate without violating water quality standards. The study will be conducted by Ecology′s Environmental Assessment Program. The Lake Whatcom watershed is in Water Resource Inventory Area 1 (WRIA 1) located in Whatcom County. The project will begin in July 2002, and a final report summarizing the study will be completed by July 2004. |
