| Short Description |
Reducing wastes and hazardous substances from industries is key in strengthening the state's economy. Industry generates most toxic wastes. These pose high risks to human and environmental health and are costly to manage. Reducing these wastes will also increase competitiveness with out-of-state businesses. (Also see abstract below) | |

| Abstract | Long Description |
This background paper for the Beyond Waste Summary Document discusses the role that industry can play in reducing risks from the use of toxic substances and from the generation of hazardous wastes. The recommendations in this paper build on successes that industry has already achieved in preventing pollution and reducing wastes. An important strategy is for Ecology to work with select industrial sectors to capitalize on opportunities for improvements. |
