This background paper for the Beyond Waste Summary Document discusses making green building practices mainstream. The paper includes background on current building practices and their effects on the environment, explains that an increased focus on green building has been identified as one of the keys to reducing wastes and the use of toxic substances in our state, identifies the benefits and goals of green building, and describes a plan of action to help us increase green building practices in Washington state.
