| Short Description |
The Bagmati River in Nepal receives seven major polluted tributaries. Discharges of wastewaters have resulted in decreased dissolved oxygen concentrations along its course. A one-dimensional stream water quality model QUAL2Kw was calibrated and confirmed using data collected in 2000. The model was applied to simulate various water quality management strategies during the critical period to maintain targeted water quality criteria considering: pollution loads modification, flow augmentation, and local oxygenation. The model was used to recommend a reasonable combination of wastewater modification, flow augmentation, and local oxygenation that would be suitable to maintain the acceptable limits of water quality criteria.
