Washington is one of the states most prone to flooding. Between 1956 and 2006, there were 32 floods in Washington that were declared Federal disasters by the President. Because of the extreme flood hazard in Washington, this booklet has been prepared for the public. The purpose of this booklet is to:

  • Describe the behavior of rivers in Western Washington.
  • Describe land cover and land use in watersheds in Western Washington.
  • Help you conduct a flood hazard survey where you live or work.
