Short Description

This brochure was originally published under the Publication # 08-01-024. Commencement Bay was one of three areas chosen by the Legislature in 2007 for Washington′s new Urban Waters Initiative. For the Bay, the goal of the Urban Waters Initiative is to prevent new environmental contamination, or recontamination, of sites that have already been cleaned up. The approach used to meet this goal is called "source control".

Abstract Long Description

Source control inspectors do the following work:  Identify potential pollutants and sources of contamination to the waters and sediments of the Bay.  Answer questions about environmental permits.  Check that businesses apply for their required environmental permits.  Help businesses reduce and prevent pollution.  Improve and coordinate source control work among Ecology, the City of Tacoma and Pierce County.
