Short Description

Fidalgo Bay has been identified by the Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) under the Toxics Cleanup Program′s Puget Sound Initiative for focused sediment cleanup and source control. The purpose of this report is to determine the nature and extent of sediment contamination in Fidalgo Bay, Anacortes, WA. Previous investigations in the bay have shown exceedances of the Sediment Management Standards (SMS). This bay-wide sediment characterization was initiated to identify contamination areas that may require cleanup and provide information concerning cleanup concentrations. This report includes the results of sediment profile imaging (SPI), surface sediment chemistry, and sediment toxicity testing conducted following the study design and methods described in the Fidalgo Bay Sediment Investigation, Anacortes, WA, Sediment Sampling and Analysis Plan (SAP) dated September 17, 2007 (Ecology 2007, SAIC 2007).
