| Short Description |
The Department of Ecology Marine Sediment Monitoring Team developed the Sediment Quality Triad Index (SQTI) to facilitate calculation of the spatial extent of degraded sediments throughout Puget Sound. The index is based on combined measures of chemical contamination, toxicity, and quality of benthic invertebrate communities collected from sampling stations. The number and percent of stations, and area and percent of area, with high, intermediate/high, intermediate/degraded, and degraded sediments have been revised for sediments collected in 1997-2003 from eight PSAMP sediment monitoring regions, five strata, and Puget Sound-wide. | |
