| Short Description |
Since fall 2007, the Washington Department of Ecology (Ecology) has collected about 65 metal canisters from Washington′s coastal beaches containing small amounts of aluminum phosphide. The canisters were thrown overboard from grain ships with their caps in place, and floated ashore. When the remaining aluminum phosphide is exposed to air, it becomes a toxic gas that can be harmful to humans. | |
