Free Soil Safety Program for public parks, camps, and public multi-family housing play areas. For almost 100 years, the Asarco company operated a copper smelter in Tacoma. Air pollution from the smelter settled on parts of King, Pierce, Kitsap, and Thurston counties, creating the Tacoma Smelter Plume. Arsenic and lead are still in the soil. Some child play areas may have arsenic and lead at levels that pose a health concern. | |||
