Short Description

The Washington State Brownfield Policy Recommendation effort is the culmination of a series of recent policy studies of the Washington State Toxics Cleanup Program and Model Toxics Control Act. These studies provide an expert, outside perspective to compare Washington State′s policies with the best practices of other states in terms of leveraging redevelopment to achieve cleanup, providing financial tools to support remediation, and building capacity in local communities to undertake brownfield projects (UW 2009, Ecology, 2010; MFA, 2010). The goal of this policy planning process is to further the evolution of the State′s brownfield program into a "third generation" model that is strategic, efficient, and integrates economic forces and community perspectives to drive more environmental cleanups.
