Short Description

The Asarco smelter, which operated in Everett in the early 1900s caused widespread arsenic and lead contamination in northeast Everett. In addition to contamination left behind on the old smelter property, particles from the smokestacks settled on the surrounding areas, contaminating soil. Your neighborhood is affected by contamination from the former smelter. In 2011 Ecology plans to clean up approximately 40 more properties in the NE area of the neighborhood, and map and sample 71 properties to be cleaned up in 2012. (Publication includes summary paragraphs in Vietnamese, Russian, Somali and Arabic.)
