| Short Description |
The Asarco smelter, which operated in Everett in the early 1900s, caused widespread arsenic and lead contamination in northeast Everett. In addition to contamination left behind on the old smelter property, particles from the stacks settled on the surrounding areas, contaminating soil. The Department of Ecology (Ecology) has begun removing contaminated soil from an area of the Everett Smelter Cleanup Site. This work is focused on two areas of the cleanup site, one north and one south of Broadway. Work will continue until early March. | |||
