Abstract Long Description

Ecology conducted a Class II Inspection at the Weyerhaeuser, Longview Pulp and Paper Mill on April 16-18, 1990. Sediments were collected from the outfall area on April 10, 1990. The mill was operating within permit parameters at the time of the inspection.

Hexavalent chromium was found in the effluent at levels exceeding acute and chronic Water Quality Criteria. No effluent toxicity was indicated in rainbow trout, fathead minnow or Microtox bioassays. NOECs and LOECs of 30% and 100%, respectively, for both survival and reporduction were reported for Daphnia magna. Sediments showed very little contamination, and no toxicity was indicated by Microtox or Hyalella azteca. No deficiencies were observed in the laboratory review. BOD5 agreement between laboratories was excellent, although TSS agreement was not good. Analysis of Radakovitch landfill leachate and R-W Paper plant runoff into Longview Ditch 3 did not indicate any problems in these areas.
