Short Description

Lake Union, an urban lake in the center of Seattle, and the surrounding fresh water bodies, has been the site of industrial and commercial use for over 75 years. These operations have degraded water quality and have contaminated sediments in some areas of the lake. To determine representative concentrations of contaminants in sediments in the lake, 22 sites in Lake Union and adjacent fresh water bodies (Salmon Bay, Lake Washington Ship Canal, and Portage Bay) as well as a reference site in Lake Washington, were sampled for priority pollutant metals and organics.
