Short Description

This guidance document provides vehicle recyclers information on the Best Management Practices (BMPs) needed to comply with the requirements of Ecology's NPDES Industrial Stormwater General Permit. The BMPs apply to facilities that dismantle, crush, or store vehicles. The facilities are classified under Standard Industrial Classification Codes (SIC) 5015-Used Motor Vehicle Parts, and SIC 5093-Scrap and Waste Materials. Users of this guidance document may include owners and/or operators of facilities covered under Ecology's stormwater permit and any other facility with similar operations. Those facilities that do not have a stormwater discharge to a surface water or a storm sewer can use this guidance to prevent contamination of ground water.
