Short Description

In May 1995, officials from the Washington State Departments of Agriculture, Ecology and Health along with the Washington State Conservation Commission met with representatives from the Region 10 office of the US Environmental Protection Agency to discuss nitrate contamination of ground water in the mid-Columbia Basin. As a result of that meeting the Interagency Ground Water Committee was asked by the represented agencies to form a small working group to conduct both an environmental and public health assessment of the nitrate problem in the area encompassed by Adams, Benton, Franklin, Grant, Lincoln, and Whitman counties.

This report is the result of a cooperative effort between members of the Interagency Ground Water Committee, the Department of Agriculture, Department of Ecology, Department of Health, the Washington State Conservation Commission, and other stakeholder agencies and organizations.
