Abstract Long Description

This interim report describes the water quality monitoring results during the third year of a six year project to evaluate the effectiveness of best management practices (BMPs). Post BMP monitoring was conducted on Beaver Creek and Allen Creek (a tributary to Beaver Creek). Beaver Creek drains to the Black River near Littlerock in Thurston County.

During the 1996-97 wet season monitoring, fecal coliform levels exceeded water quality standards at four out of five stations and nitrogen loading was elevated at creek miles 2.5 and 0.9 as compared to upstream sites. Improvements were seen in fecal coliform levels downstream of the BMP site, which may be due to BMP implementation. No statistically significant differences in water quality were noted between creek miles 0.9 and 0.1. Recommendations include post-BMP monitoring for Beaver Creek and possible investigation of sources between creek mile 2.5 and 0.9.
