Climate Registry

The Climate Registry is a state and province driven initiative to establish a single greenhouse gas registry for North America. It currently enjoys the support and participation of at least 39 U.S. States, 7 Canadian provinces (with all 13 committed to join), 3 American Indian tribes and 6 Mexican states.

Ecology recently hosted a meeting between The Climate Registry and Washington businesses who play a leadership role in our state in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and stabilizing our changing climate. You may view the presentation by Registry staff.

We believe that joining the Climate Registry as a reporter makes good sense. In fact, the Department of Ecology has done so. We’ll start reporting our greenhouse gas emissions starting in 2009. We’ll start reporting our greenhouse gas emissions starting in 2009. Many Washington businesses are already tracking emissions and recognize that climate change will impact their business, employees and our shared environment. Participating in The Climate Registry is a logical next step. We urge Washington businesses to join as a voluntary reporter.

In March 2008 The Climate Registry finalized its General Reporting Protocol which gives guidance on how to inventory greenhouse gas emissions for participation in the Registry.
