A ball-bearing switch is a safe and effective replacement for a mercury-containing switch. A mechanic can exchange lighting switches within minutes. A skilled do-it-yourselfer can also exchange switches. Anti-lock brake sensors (ABS) are more difficult to exchange than convenience-light switches. Washington residents should recycle or dispose of personal mercury switches properly.
