Mercury Laws - Universal Waste Rules

Universal Waste Rules encourage recycling of certain materials by offering a simplified system for safe handling.  If a waste is identified and handled as "Universal Waste," it may be exempted from some hazardous-waste laws and rules.   This designation always comes with strict caveats that the business must follow the proper handling and recycling procedures.  

 Some mercury-containing products may be handled under the Universal Waste Rules. 

Universal Waste Rule: WAC 173-303-573 is a detailed guide to following the Washington Administrative Code that allows handling under the Universal Waste Rules.
