A study commissioned by the Department of Ecology in 2002 found no manufacturers adding elemental mercury to their products, even among those which historically used mercury to manufacture products.
Many industrial facilities have mercury-containing products on site, however, such as in switches and relays or in measuring devices. Some industries emit mercury as a byproduct of production.
Mercury Identification in Washington State Manufacturing assesses mercury use by manufacturers in the State of Washington, identifies products and manufacturers to target mercury reduction, and suggests alternatives.
Mercury Measures - Toxics Release Inventory graphs releases from 2001 - 2006. Businesses with mercury waste or emissions of 10 pounds or more must report to the Toxics Release Inventory.
