Mercury from Power Plants 

Washington state has one coal-fired power plant. The Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) is closely following the federal Environmental Protection Agency's rule-adoption process before adopting new state rules. 

Mercury from manufacturing will cover small power plants in industrial facilities.

Ecology's Air Quality Program Actions

The Air Quality Program worked with stakeholders to draft requirements for mercury emissions from coal-fired power plants. However, decisions by the Court in February 2008 affect this process.  Ecology's next actions will depend on the federal process:
