OCTOBER IS NATIONAL CAR CARE MONTH
The Washington Department of Ecology, Southwest Air Pollution Control Authority (SWAPCA) and local automotive repair centers are co-sponsoring a "Car Care Clinic" for Car Care Month. The free clinic will be Saturday, October 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Vancouver Fred Meyer store, 16600 SE McGillvray.
Staff from several local repair centers will be conducting courtesy vehicle emissions and safety checks. The courtesy inspection includes checking all vehicle running lights, turn signals, emergency flashers, tire condition and an emission test. Motorists will learn about the importance of properly maintaining their vehicles. A clean running engine saves money on gas and repairs, in addition to reducing air pollution.
Department of Ecology staff will be available to assist motorists in interpreting their emission check results and to respond to questions regarding the motor vehicle Emission Check Program. Before each Emission Check inspection, Ecology reminds motorists to bring the vehicle to proper operating temperature by driving it for about 10 minutes on the freeway. If there's a line, leave the engine running unless instructed otherwise.
For Emission Check Program information call toll free: 1-800-453-4951, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. For information on other local air quality issues contact SWAPCA at (360)574-3058.
National Car Care Month is a cooperative effort, coordinated by the non-profit Car Care Council, the automotive industry, local state and federal government agencies and other concerned citizens.
