RESOLUTIONS FOR THE NEW YEAR
OLYMPIA, WA -- This is the time when most of us are thinking about
resolutions for the new year. With that in mind, here's some recommendations
from the Department of Ecology about what you can do to help protect the natural
beauty of Washington state.
Throughout the year, make arrangements to keep your vehicle running in
tip-top shape. Regular maintenance and repair of your vehicle can reduce air
emissions by up to 10%.
- When selecting an auto repair shop - ask about their waste disposal
practices, and if they recycle their oil and antifreeze. Informed consumers
influence businesses to do the right thing for the environment we all depend
upon.
- Consider carpooling with a friend to work or school. Try it once a week,
just for a start! Did you know that carpooling two days a week can save you
money and cut your air emissions by almost 40% in one year?
- Did you know that...your brake and transmission fluid, used oil and
antifreeze can be recycled? Call 1-800-recycle for locations in your community
where you can recycle auto wastes, old worn out tires, degreasers and the like.
