OLYMPIA, WA - The Methow Valley Limited Liability Corporation is one of the first companies in Washington to take advantage of a new "coordinated permit process" that will help streamline the complex process of applying for and obtaining environmental permits for a proposed resort in the Methow Valley.
The corporation has proposed the Arrowleaf resort for a site near Mazama in the Upper Methow Valley. The resort would include an 18-hole golf course, approximately 650 dwelling units, hiking trails and more, located along the Methow River and Early Winters Creek.
Using this coordinated permit process, Arrowleaf officials and staff from three state agencies have begun work on a master timeline for permit decisions. Where possible, the process coordinates similar process steps among various permits. For example, it may combine the public hearing for one permit with the public hearing for another permit.
"We've designed the coordinated permit process to encourage open communication among the project proponents, agency staff and interested members of the public," said coordinator Mary Ellen McKain. "In a way, it's a one-stop center for both the proponents of the project and citizens who want to follow the project's progress."
To move forward with this project, the Methow Valley Limited Liability Corporation will need several environmental permits. The required permits address the use of water at the resort, wastewater discharges, and the way in which the shoreline may be developed. Permits also are required from the state Department of Health for the resort's drinking water system and from the Department of Natural Resources for selected logging prior to construction.
