Department of Ecology News Release - Dec. 7, 2000

OLYMPIA - Motor-vehicle emission-testing stations will be closed Saturday, Dec. 23. The Christmas weekend closure will be the only schedule change for the Emission Check program during the winter holidays.
Regular operating hours for Emission Check stations are Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The stations are owned and operated by Envirotest Systems, Inc., for the Washington Department of Ecology under a state contract. There are 20 stations in Clark, King, Pierce, Snohomish and Spokane counties.
Inspections identify vehicles with excessive tailpipe emissions so they can be serviced. Repairs to these cars, trucks and buses help reduce vehicle emissions as a whole by 20 percent and help the Puget Sound, Spokane and Vancouver/Portland regions meet national clean-air standards.
