YAKIMA - The public is invited to submit written comments on a plan for improving water temperatures in the Teanaway River watershed.
A local advisory group has worked with the state Department of Ecology for several years to develop a water cleanup plan (also called a "total maximum daily load," or TMDL) to reduce water temperatures in the Teanaway River basin.
Among the strategies planned for reducing water temperatures in the Teanaway River are planting stream-side trees, increasing the efficiency of irrigation equipment and improving roads within the watershed. A public information program is also being developed.
Copies of the detailed implementation plan for the Teanaway Temperature TMDL are available for review at the Cle Elum Public Library (509-674-2313) and at the Ellensburg Public Library (509-962-7250).
Questions and comments should be addressed to Jane Creech, Department of Ecology, 15 W. Yakima Ave., Ste. 200, Yakima, Wash., 98902 (509-454-7860). All public comments must be received by Jan. 3, 2003.
