OLYMPIA - Following is a summary of all penalties of $1,000 or more issued by the Department of Ecology during the third and fourth quarters of 2002 (July through December). The six-month total is $475,480.
All together, Ecology issued nearly $16.9 million in penalties in 2002, with two penalties accounting for $15.72 million of the total – levied against Shell Oil Co. and Olympic Pipe Line Company for the pipeline explosion in Bellingham in 1999.
