Ecology field office marks 10 years in Vancouver

VANCOUVER – In late 1997, the Washington Department of Ecology opened the doors to a field office in Vancouver. Now a decade later, the Vancouver team is inviting the public to an open house to celebrate 10 years of environmental accomplishments and learn about work to come in the next decade.

The open house runs from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at Ecology’s office at 2108 Grand Boulevard.

Vancouver’s team is part of Ecology’s Southwest Regional Office, headquartered in Lacey.

“It’s important for Ecology to have a presence in the communities we serve,” said Dick Wallace, director of the agency’s Southwest Region. “It helps us develop partnerships with local stakeholders and provides the public direct access to our staff.”

The Vancouver Field Office is one of a handful of small offices Ecology has throughout the state. Other locations include Bellingham, Richland, Manchester and Padilla Bay. Having a local presence allows Ecology to work more closely with community partners to protect, preserve and improve the environment.
