SPOKANE – The Washington Department of Ecology (Ecology) will hold a public hearing on Thursday, April 16, to let the public weigh in on changes at the REC Solar Grade Silicon plant near Moses Lake.
The hearing will start at 7:30 p.m. on April 16, preceded by a workshop hosted by REC at 5:30 p.m and a presentation by the Department of Ecology at 6:30 pm. It will be held at the Best Western Lake Front Hotel ballroom, 3000 Marina Dr. in Moses Lake.
REC has applied to Ecology for permission to expand its facility by building new silicon production reactors and a new silane gas plant. Silane gas is used in the manufacture of computer parts. The company also will upgrade its air pollution control equipment and emergency response equipment.
Once all of the new and modified equipment is operating, the facility will have six to eight times the current production capacity.
The plant is located at 3322 Road N N.E. in Moses Lake. The city of Moses Lake, through the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) checklist, has determined that the changes are not likely to harm the environment.
This document and other documents related to these changes at REC are available for public review at Ecology, 4601 N. Monroe in Spokane, and at the Moses Lake Building and Planning Department, 321 Balsam Street in Moses Lake.
Send written comments by April 22, 2009 to Robert Koster at Ecology, 4601 N. Monroe, Spokane, WA 99205.
