SEATTLE (Nov. 22, 2009 12:45 a.m.) — The state Department of Ecology, U.S. Coast Guard and NRC Environmental Services (NRC-ES), a private response and cleanup contractor, are responding to a sunken tug at Terminal 5 in Seattle.
A person was on the NRC-ES tug when it sank around 10 p.m. after high waves inundated the stern of the vessel. That person was taken to Harborview Hospital and is good condition.
The vessel had an estimated 200 gallons of diesel fuel in its tanks when it sank. There have been no reports of visible fuel leaks or fuel odor. NRC-ES has two response vessels at the scene and Ballard Global Diving & Salvage divers should arrive shortly to assess potential damages to the vessel.
More information about the incident will be provided as soon as it becomes available.
