Department of Ecology News Release - February 4, 2010
10-018
OLYMPIA - The Washington Department of Ecology (Ecology) has revised the state's Aquatic Mosquito Control General Permit and is seeking public input on the changes before they go into effect later this spring.
The permit is an important tool to protect public health and the environment by allowing chemical control of mosquito populations in state waters.
The proposed permit and permit fact sheet are posted on Ecology's website at: www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/wq/pesticides/final_pesticide_permits/mosquito/mosquito_index.html
Ecology will hold a public workshop followed by a public hearing to collect testimony about the permit 1 p.m., March 9, 2010, at the Moses Lake Fire Department, 701 E. Third Ave in Moses Lake.
Ecology will accept written and oral comments on the draft permit, fact sheet and notice of intent. Comments should reference specific text when possible. Ecology encourages comments by e-mail. Submit them with the subject line: Mosquito Control Permit Comments and email them to jonathan.jennings@ecy.wa.gov.
The public may provide oral comments by testifying at the public hearing or by submitting written, hard-copy comments to Jon Jennings - Mosquito Control Permit Comments, Department of Ecology, P.O. Box 47600, Olympia, WA 98504-7600. Ecology must receive written, postmarked or e-mailed comments no later than 5 p.m., March 10.
If you have questions, contact Jon Jennings at 360-407-6283.
