Department of Ecology News Release - June 8, 2010

OLYMPIA – The Washington Department of Ecology (Ecology) is holding an open house in Tacoma to gather input about what works and doesn’t work with the state’s current aquatic plants and algae permit.
The open house marks the beginning of a public process to update the permit.
The Aquatic Plant and Algae Management General Permit covers the discharge of products used to control aquatic plants and algae in Washington lakes. The permit also allows treatment of nuisance emergent plants along roadsides and ditch banks.
Control products include aquatic herbicides, algaecides, biological clarification products, aquatic dyes, adjuvants, and products such as alum.
The open house begins at 6 p.m., Tuesday, June 22 at Sprinker Recreation Center at 14824 ‘C’ Street South in Tacoma.
Ecology will give a brief presentation about the current permit followed by a short question and answer session. Participants are encouraged to review the permit and offer comments.
Ecology will review input gathered and recorded from the open house to develop a new, proposed permit it expects to be ready for public review later this year. At that time, Ecology will initiate a formal public comment period.
View a copy of the current permit on Ecology's website.
