Ecology responding to oil sheen on the Snake River near Lower Granite Dam

SPOKANE – The Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) is responding to a report of an oil sheen on the Snake River near Lower Granite Dam in Whitman County. The Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) reported the sheen yesterday.

The Corps and Whitman County Emergency Management Division deployed absorbent booms above and below the fish ladder at the Lower Granite Dam. The dam has been ruled out as the possible source of the oil sheen.

Ecology and the Corps are investigating the source. Early estimates describe the size of the spill to be less than 10 gallons.

More information about the spill will be provided as soon as it becomes available.
