Comments sought on Prosser's shoreline plan

PROSSER – A program to manage about four miles of Yakima River shoreline within the city of Prosser is open for comment through the Washington Department of Ecology.

The proposed shoreline program will guide construction and development along Prosser's shoreline. It combines local plans for future development and preservation with new development ordinances and related permitting requirements.

Prosser adopted its shoreline plan on June 24, 2014. Once approved by Ecology, the city's shoreline program will become part of the overall state shoreline master program.

The locally tailored shoreline program is designed to help minimize environmental damage to shoreline areas, reserve appropriate areas for water-oriented uses and protect people's access to public land and waters.

Comments will be accepted through Feb. 26, 2015. Comments and questions should be addressed to Lennard Jordan, Department of Ecology, Shorelands and Environmental Assistance Program, 15 W. Yakima Ave., Suite 200, Yakima, WA 98902, or by email to lennard.jordan@ecy.wa.gov. For information, call 509-457-7125.

Review documents:

Taking public comments into consideration, Ecology may approve Prosser's proposed shoreline program as written, reject it or identify specific modifications to meet the Shoreline Management Act and applicable state regulations.
