5th Annual Duwamish River Festival August 8, 2009

Date: SATURDAY, AUGUST 8, 2009 Time: 12:00-4:00 P.M.

Location:  Duwamish Waterway Park, in the South Park neighborhood, Seattle 7900 10th Ave South @ S. KENYON St.    (See directions below)

Ecology is collaborating with numerous agencies and stakeholder groups to provide the community with updates on the Duwamish River cleanup process.  Join us in celebrating the Duwamish River cleanup and restoration! Free, family-friendly environmental festival features updates on the Duwamish River Superfund cleanup, kayak tours on the river, live entertainment, water taxi rides, food, children’s activities,  natural yard care tips, health information, and more!

Directions

Directions to Festival at Duwamish Waterway Park, in South Park:

  • From I-5, exit at Michigan/Corson Exit. Cross over Michigan and continue straight on Corson to East Marginal Way., turn left and head south to 16th Ave/South Park Bridge. Turn right to cross bridge, then immediate right on other side onto Dallas Ave. S. Follow Dallas to Southern, then left 1/2 block to 10th Ave S. Duwamish River Park is on the right.

  • From 99 South, follow East Marginal Way South past 1st Ave Bridge (stay to Left at bridge, do not follow 99/509 across bridge). Follow East Marginal Way south to 16th Ave/South Park Bridge. Turn right to cross bridge, then immediate right on other side onto Dallas Ave. S. Follow Dallas to Southern, then left 1/2 block to 10th Ave S. Duwamish River Park is on the right.

  • From 99 North, get off at the 14th Avenue Exit, follow 14th Avenue to Cloverdale and go left. At 10th Avenue go right, follow 10th for several blocks, the park is at the end of the street.

Directions to Gateway Park (8th Ave S. at S. Othello St); in Georgetown and you can ride the Water Taxi to the Festival:

  • From I-5, exit at Michigan/Corson Exit. Cross over Michigan and continue straight on Corson to East Marginal Way. Turn left one block, then right onto 8th Ave S. at the T-21 nightclub, across from the Coliman Restaurant. Gateway Park North is 3 blocks east, on the river.

  • From 99 S, follow East Marginal Way South past 1st Ave Bridge (stay to left at bridge; do not follow 99/509 across bridge). Turn right onto 8th Ave S. at the T-21 nightclub, across from the Coliman Restaurant.

    • Duwamish River Festival - August 23, 2008

Ecology collaborated with numerous agencies and stakeholder groups to provide updates to the community about the Duwamish River Cleanup process at the 4th Annual Duwamish River festival. 

This event was a free, fun, family-friendly environmental festival’s featuring updates on the Duwamish River Superfund cleanup.  This  event had even more booths and activities including kayak tours on the river, live entertainment, water taxi rides, food, children’s activities, health information, tiny tots nail salon, an eco-friendly car wash demonstration, and more! 

    • Lower Duwamish Superfund Cleanup – Public Meeting

    • The Department of Ecology held a public meeting on November 29, 2007.  The meeting was an opportunity to learn more about the remedial investigation, the environmental and human health risks of toxic pollution and what you can do to make a difference.

    • Duwamish River Festival - August 18, 2007

    The Duwamish River Festival gets better every year.  On August 18, 2007 the third annual festival was held in Seattle’s South Park neighborhood.  Attendance increased in size from last year. More than 700 people attended the festival.

    The family-friendly environmental festival provided updates on the Duwamish River Superfund cleanup, kayak tours on the river, live entertainment, water taxi rides, food, children’s activities,  health information, natural yard care tips, and more.

    Ecology collaborated with numerous agencies and stakeholder groups to provide updates to the community about the Duwamish River cleanup process.

    Program partners included: the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; the Washington State Department of Ecology; the Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition; King County; City of Seattle; Port of Seattle; The Boeing Company; Seattle Public Utilities; Public Health - Seattle and King County; State Department of Health; Puget Sound Clean Air Agency; Seattle Parks and Recreation; Green Duwamish Central Puget Sound (WRIA 9) Watershed- Forum of Local Governments; Alki Kayak Tours; and NRC Environmental.   For information, please call Justine Asohmbom, 425-649-7135 or email: juas461@ecy.wa.gov.

    • Duwamish River Festival  - August 12, 2006

    • The second Duwamish River Festival was very successful this past year!  Ecology collaborated with other state, federal, local agencies along with community organizations for the second Duwamish River Festival in Seattle's South Park neighborhood.

      The festival doubled in size, both in number of people in attendance and number of booths and displays. Approximately 600 people came to the festival this year to get environmental and health information related to the Duwamish River and Puget Sound, to take a boat ride on the river, and to enjoy free music and food!
