Ecology collaborated with numerous agencies and stakeholder
groups to provide updates to the community about the Duwamish River Cleanup
process at the 4th Annual Duwamish River festival.
The Duwamish River Festival gets better every year. On August 18, 2007 the third annual festival was held in Seattle’s South Park neighborhood. Attendance increased in size from last year. More than 700 people attended the festival. The family-friendly environmental festival provided updates on the Duwamish River Superfund cleanup, kayak tours on the river, live entertainment, water taxi rides, food, children’s activities, health information, natural yard care tips, and more. Ecology collaborated with numerous agencies and stakeholder groups to provide updates to the community about the Duwamish River cleanup process. Program partners included: the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; the Washington State Department of Ecology; the Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition; King County; City of Seattle; Port of Seattle; The Boeing Company; Seattle Public Utilities; Public Health - Seattle and King County; State Department of Health; Puget Sound Clean Air Agency; Seattle Parks and Recreation; Green Duwamish Central Puget Sound (WRIA 9) Watershed- Forum of Local Governments; Alki Kayak Tours; and NRC Environmental. Approximately 600 people came to the festival this year to get environmental and health information related to the Duwamish River and Puget Sound, to take a boat ride on the river, and to enjoy free music and food!
