Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL) - Training and
Certification Programs
The Construction Stormwater General Permit requires that site
inspections be conducted by a CESCL. The following training programs are available to meet the
training and certification requirements of the General Permit,
and BMP C160 Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL)
in Ecology’s stormwater management manuals for eastern and
western Washington. The CESCL certification card is good
for three calendar years from the date of training. CESCLs must
renew their certifications by taking the one-day (8-hour)
recertification course within 42 months (3 years + a ‘grace
period’ of 6 months), or by taking the two-day (16-hour) full
course again if the card has not been renewed in the past 42
months.

individuals who have completed CESCL training.
Search the
Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC)
Database (this
database is not managed by Ecology). Current CPESC
certification fulfills the requirement for CESCL certification,
per Ecology's BMP C160.
