Washington Meets the Ozone Standard

3-year Average of 4th Highest 8-hr Ozone Samples, 1995-97

These tables summarize the data from ozone monitoring stations and show whether each station has met the outdoor air quality standard for ozone.

The standard (adopted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 1997) is based on an 8-hour average of .08 parts per million (ppm). The following formula is used to determine whether a region violates the standard:

Each year’s three highest readings are disregarded. Only the fourth highest reading is considered.
The standard is based on the three-year average of these fourth highest annual readings.

EPA rounds the numbers so that readings and averages below .085 ppm are considered "passing."
