Air Quality and Smoke Complaints
If you see someone you think is
burning illegally or if you are being
impacted by smoke; call Ecology's toll free line for complaints and comments at
1-866-211-6284.
If you are in the Eastern region (Adams, Asotin, Columbia, Ferry, Garfield, Grant, Lincoln, Pend Oreille, Spokane, Stevens, Walla Walla and Whitman counties),
you can also e-mail your complaints: links are at the bottom of the
page.
If you are in Central region (Chelan, Douglas, Kittitas,
Klickitat and Okanogan counties), you can call Gwen Clear at
(509) 575-2012.
If you do not live in any of the above mentioned counties you may
contact your
local clean air authority through this link.
If you are on an Indian Reservation in Washington, please
call the US Environmental Protection Agency's Federal Air Rules for
Reservations (FARR) Hotline at 1-800-424-4EPA with questions
or complaints.
When you call, please be prepared to give as much information as you can.
Please provide:
- Your name and telephone number (your complaint can be anonymous, but if
Ecology is unable to contact you for more information, we may not be able to follow up
with a response or enforcement action.)
- Date and time of burn
- Your residing county and town
- The nature of your complaint or comment
- Specific location of smoke (if known)
- Source of smoke (if known)
- Landowner and/or burner (if known)
- A detailed description including what is being burned
